We, in the USA, haven’t always been true to our calling, printed on the Statue of Liberty. During World War II, we exploded 67 atomic devices in the Pacific Marshall Islands and risked the health of the natives. One woman gave birth to a child that looked like a jellyfish due to the radiation.
Many of the Marshall Islanders were allowed to come to the U.S., but had no Medicare or Medicaid. They suffered from radiation diseases. It was not a picture we could be proud of.
Of course, we were humans too, not anticipating the consequences. Like other humans, we will have to pay for our deeds.
