Excelsior (Higher)

Glenn Beck has come out with a new book, The Great Reset, and it has sold out in the Manhasset Barnes & Noble.  I’ll report on it in a few weeks.  In the meantime, I’ll concern myself with the big reset I’ll soon be facing, the reset of my values as I face eternity in one form or another.

I’ve tried to keep my values in line with those of the Great Redeemer, who spared no detail in seeing that I got his message.  Knowing how I did is a little like knowing my credit rating—some of the transactions may not have been to my benefit.  But there’s always Hope.

If it were not for hope the human heart would break.  We are weak since we evolved from where Nature was tantamount, and the laws of God are superNatural.  But we have help; on that I’m relying.

AI Computers

Henry Kissinger et al. wrote a book (The Age of AI And Our Human Future)  in which he tells how AlphaZero, an AI (Artificial Intelligence) computer, beat all humans at chess, and another computer found an antibiotic that could kill a virus that was thought invincible.

The age of AI is upon us.  The only thing is, these computers have no morals whatsoever except those of the people who work them.  Lord help us if they fall into the wrong hands.

This is one of the reasons I still find time to pray.  We are up against forces we can no longer beat with pure human reasoning.

An Accounting

It will soon enough be income tax time.  Around Easter, it’ll be time, spiritually, to go to confession.  There are a few things I regret, and since I believe in the forgiveness of sins, that’s the way to go.

On the income tax, I used to total up the itemized deductions, but then my accountant told me they’d be cause to be called in by the IRS to prove them.  So I just take a standard deduction on my charity, and on my medical I don’t know what to do.

Believe me, it’s easier to work with the Lord than the IRS.

Real Art

On my bedroom bureau is a small statuette of Christ the Redeemer, the 98 foot statue in Rio de Janeiro Harbor that has been called one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.  This small version of Christ the Redeemer was a gift from my son, Fred, which he picked up in Argentina, where a smaller version of the Rio statue stands in the mountains.

The original statue, which has an armspan of ninety-two feet, was designed by the Polish-French sculptor Paul Landowski, with Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida forming the face.  The money was donated by Brazilians.

The statuette is a consolation that my son, despite his travels, has not lost the way.

Hackers

I don’t see what joy hackers get out of destroying someone’s website.  Other people build a clientele and friends on the web, and these self-absorbed predators get their money by stealing from the unsuspecting.  They pick on innocent people.  There must be a special place in hell for them, these hackers, when they finally expire, as we all must.

Today I clicked on an innocent correspondent’s attachment and found it was a scam.  I am now compromised.  Oh, having to go through that again!  If a hacker is reading this, what if I am right—that there is a Hell?
