False Reasoning

Mario Cuomo believed he could be a good Catholic and a pro-abortion Governor.  The results of that belief are visible in his son, Andrew, and Pres. Biden and Nancy Pelosi.  Not an encouraging ending.  Better to acknowledge allegiance to the devil and not try to fool people.

Life presents us with difficult decisions in these modern days, but when you look at Mario Cuomo’s results there’s no question—you don’t want results that’ll make you rue the day you were born.  I’ve made some though decisions, but I pity Mario for his rationalization, and pray that I may not be fooled in my reasoning as he was.

Return

Return

Sometimes, when I receive a gift from God, I pray for some understanding.  The gift may be physical, but the understanding is needed to utilize it.  I receive the gift of added mobility for my weak legs, but where to go?

Would it be a walk or a visit to my wife in rehab.  Of course I’ll go to rehab.  We owe something to a life’s companion.  Thank you Holy Spirit for that insight.

Inspiration

Did the Holy Spirit settle on Thomas Edison when he invented the incandescent light bulb that has transformed civilization? Was he there when Morse invented the telegraph code?  Was he at the root of modern Western Civilization?

The Holy Spirit is no doubt modest, as he teaches this virtue, and his work is done in secret.  This much we know about our mysterious God of the Bible.  So when you receive a gift from God, be not surprised if you don’t know its source.  God himself does not advertise.

The Aftermath

We, in the USA, haven’t always been true to our calling, printed on the Statue of Liberty.  During World War II, we exploded 67 atomic devices in the Pacific Marshall Islands and risked the health of the natives.  One woman gave birth to a child that looked like a jellyfish due to the radiation.

Many of the Marshall Islanders were allowed to come to the U.S., but had no Medicare or Medicaid.  They suffered from radiation diseases.  It was not a picture we could be proud of.

Of course, we were humans too, not anticipating the consequences.  Like other humans, we will have to pay for our deeds.

Our Gifts

One of the parents of St. Mary’s High School has established a scholarship for a deserving student after seeing the education his own son received there.  He himself was an immigrant who had to learn English at the age of eleven, but grew up to become a success on Wall Street.

Here is someone who appreciates the gifts God gave his to assimilate his new culture in record time, with time enough to acquire a fortune.  It was his work, but God supplied the brains and social skills he needed to make it work.  We all have similar or different precious gifts.
