Fate or Plan

When I consider that micro-distances are measured to a thousandth of a centimeter or smaller (Planck’s length), I wonder if the Author of Life doesn’t also measure providence (fate).  Today I went to my pharmacy for a scheduled booster shot for Covid-19, and was told I had no appointment but there was an appointment cancellation that I could take (fate or part of the plan?)

There are many such saving moments in life, and we don’t even thank the Lord for what seems to be a chance happening.  But then, it is not far from wrong that all things, even chance, are subject to Him.  Se la vie.  That’s life!

Getting Adapted

I am happy to live among people with similar values.  It would be challenging, and is, to mix with people of differing values.  But what if I fail to convince the others I’m right? Failed to convert a Mary Magdalene to be a Theresa of Avila?  I don’t care for the prospect of defeat.

Nobody does.  But life has risk, and I’ve lived with risk before.  There were the U-boats in the Atlantic crossing in 1942, though I was not fully aware (I was 8 years old), and there was always the prospect of being considered a foreigner.

So we live with our innermost attitudes, and deal with the prospects of providence (or fate).  Whatever the good Lord sends.

Creation

I have one complaint about science.  The explanations are dull.  I am reading an excellent book by Frank Wilczek, the Nobel laureate, and of course he never mentions a supreme being.  But this is true of all of modern science.

Things just happen by themselves.  They take a great story, like the big bang, and the story runs like one of the Glockenspiels (mechanical clock-tower figurines) in Bern, and of course never mentions that somebody winds them up or turns on the switch.

The authors of the Bible tell it with drama.  Somebody made these people and things, Somebody with character and personality.  It seems to me that if something is formed out of nothing, it doesn’t happen by itself.  I know that much of reality.

Virginia Elections

There’s a fierce gubernatorial contest going on in Virginia, between Republican Youngkin and Democrat McAuliffe.  Both Biden and Trump have had a say, but have limited their appearance.  Neither one has a determining influence.

How the people of Virginia vote will count on their motives.  Do they want to promote the counter culture attitude of the Democrats, or the Judeo-Christian stance of the Republicans?  Is it secularism or Westernism?  (no Buddhas here.)

There’s an old Latin saying, Vox populi, vox Dei; the voice of the people is the voice of God.  So be it.

The Widow’s Mite

I was feeling down.  Then I got the notice: a blogger with the name christiantechnerd had liked one of my blogs and had notified the company.  She didn’t just hit the “like” button; she notified the company.  Well, it did the trick and now I’m writing this.

I try to keep a cheery, positive outlook on life, and fail some times.  People like that blogger don’t realize it, but sometimes the smallest gesture helps.  I have to remember that in the future.
