William Tell

My granddaughter went upstate today to Warwick to go apple picking.  The apple has played a prominent role in my life.  It was what William Tell had to shoot off his son’s head with a crossbow at an archduke’s behest, giving every Swiss Army recruit the goal of being a marksman since that time.  I think the whole incident is incredible, for though the crossbow can be more accurate than a conventional hunting bow, it still leaves much to chance.

History relies to some extent on legend, and since the apple incident occurred before 1315, supposedly, we give it less credence than Pearl Harbor.  Although I declined to major in history, it still has some interesting stories.

To Pack the Supreme Court

The Biden administration is planning a coup, a packing of the Supreme Court, like in Venezuela, that would give one party (the Democrats) control of the Supreme Court.  All they have to do is add two more justices—not replacements, but additional justices.

This is what you call a coup, and it means a dictatorship.  No more freedom of religion, eventually no more freedom of speech, no more choosing, as in China, to have children.  Forget the Republic.  The Liberals will control—see Venezuela.  People are fleeing that country now.

Now you know why I pray.  I did what I could, even signed petitions.

Chaos Magnified

When I was young, I thought an avalanche started out as a snowball, and gained size rolling downhill.  I know now it is more like a landslide.  Digging out those caught in it is not like shoveling snow in your driveway; compacted snow can be likened to concrete.

Occasionally there are survivors.  If you manage to stay near the surface, the grace of God is with you.  But the force of an avalanche is destructive—like so many things in life it gains momentum and mass.  There are plagues and social movements that can be compared to the avalanche.

Drug addiction and brutality towards our fellow humans, not just here but in countries where Christians are killed are examples.  It’s a force enlarged.

The Ultimate Quest

A rich man recently paid almost $500,000 for a permit to hunt a big horn sheep.  They have recently been returned to the Rocky Mountains at the request of wealthy hunters, and they adorn those picturesque wilds.  Hunting them is strictly regulated by law.

Some of the beneficiaries have been the Cree Indians, on whose lands the sheep herds now live.  One man recently got his trophy the old-fashioned way, by bow and arrow.  He shot at 80 yards, nearly the length of a football field.

There are many ultimate quests in life.  Mine is to be a copy of the Son of Man.
