Happy Go Lucky Adults

We went looking for decorative Indian corn to decorate our doorway for the fall.  It wasn’t in the store yet, but the Christmas trees were all decorated already in one part of the store.  Will it or not, that is a big part of our year for believers and unbelievers alike.  It goes to show what kind of an impression that little child of Bethlehem had on the world, the western world in particular.

This year there is ample opportunity to do a good deed for Christmas, what with thousands of Haitians being forced to go back to their devastated homes, with tornado and flood victims still recovering and us struggling with a pandemic.  You know, there are countries where this light has not shone, and there’s nobody in a mood for a good deed or whatever.

We take our fresh water as it comes, and never ask about the source.  Happy go lucky kids is all we are.

Penance

We went to Captree today and I went inside to order a hot dog.  I specified mustard and sauerkraut, and the young man wh9 seemed to have trouble processing the previous customer’s credit card charged me $5.43.  He went to the grill, where a sleepy girl was in charge of the frankfurters, and put a luke warm hot  dog in the bun.  He then neatly spread sauerkraut over it and topped that with mustard.

When I got ourside, I found the sauerkraut was cold, and the mustard covered it like a cold blanket.  I was already in the car, and what the heck, I’d offered God worse penances before.

God Help Us

Today, at the Notre Dame vs. Purdue football game, in the closing minutes, a Purdue pass receiver received the ball and then was tackled from behind by a Notre Dame player.  But it was not a conventional tackle.  It was a bump from the rear.  The Purdue player was off balance at the time of contact, and remained face down on the ground.  He didn’t move.

Both the Purdue and Notre Dame teams sent their medical staff over to where he lay, and the game stopped.  Notre Dame had the home team advantage, and can you imagine how many Notre Dame fans were in the stands, all praying for this guy?  They brought a small truck onto the field to bring him to the locker room, but heaven was quicker than they.  He revived.  A medical co-ed rode with him down to the medical facilities.

A Sea Change

Up to now, I’ve taken an agent’s rejection as final, but Margaret, an agent, says it helps sometimes to continue the conversation.  That is if you’ve got a good book for sale.  I think I’ll take her up on that.

Of course I don’t mean flirt, but where business is concerned, all lanes are open.  I don’t want to start with climate change, but a book with the purpose of change of outlook as regards our civilization is worth the trouble.  Too few people see the signposts in our universe.

California Recall

There are several million more registered Democrats than Republicans in California, and if 50% of the Californians had voted for one of the candidates other than Newsom, he would have lost. (There were thirty-six who opposed him).  The one with the most votes would have won.

That’s my understanding of the petition system that was in place, according to the Los Angeles Times.  It doesn’t speak well for the majority of Californians.  But like the Californians, we New Yorkers are a failed group of humanity, the very people Christ died for.

Old age makes you realize your shortcomings.  Here’s to old age and reasonableness.
