My Impact

James Patterson, (major: English) graduated from the college that I left after two years (major: physics) because I was partially color blind.  You might say there’s a difference in success, (he’s sold about 300 million books), but I haven’t said finis yet.  I’m not trying to sell books anymore—I’m measuring my impact on this world.

Of course, I’ve been a teacher, of Steve Israel, for example, and I’ve tried to influence people to do good.  I tried many things—raising a family, courting a beautiful girl, and more, but the impact on this sometimes awry world has not been distinct.  I want people to say, “He made a difference.”

Maybe they won’t say it.  Maybe only God will know.  That’s enough.

Yes to LIfe

Yes to Life is psychiatrist Viktor Frankl’s latest book.  He became famous for his book, Man’s Search for Meaning, which he wrote in nine days following his release from Auschwitz.  He says in effect, “Don’t say I am going to eternal life; say instead yes to LIFE.”

Life is bigger than anything we’ve imagined, especially for Christians who have the promise of eternal life.  In the library, which Ben Franklin said is hard to do without, are many books on such wild things as quantum mechanics, the wildlife of the North Pole, the tribes of the Amazon who still eat human flesh.  This is just to give you some idea what the completeness of life on Earth entails.

Well, I’m giving you some fullness of life, which was the reason Christ said he came.  Enjoy Christmas and all the conjunctive celebrations of this, our civilization.

Two Nuclei, Fused

They’re trying to create a star on Earth, the French, the Russians, the Chinese, and of course, the USA.  Nuclear fusion, which is the opposite of fission (atomic explosion) and goes on inside stars, is a better source of power than oil and non-polluting.

At the National Ignition Facility (NIF) in California they are busy creating a small star that would supply the US with plenty of electricity.  The countries mentioned above are hot on the tracks of this latest US venture, and so far are doing the work themselves.

Let’s remain true to our Judeo-Christian culture and not become divided before we reach this new national goal.  We were the first ones on the moon; let’s be the first with nuclear fusion.

The Unconscious World

We returned from picking up my reading glasses, which I asked to be made since the cheap ones available at drugstores hurt my eyes under extended use.  The receptionist was a stunner.  I am glad God populates the world with such good looking examples of his creation, to let us know his work has its peaks.

What would a world be without beauty?  It is not all landscapes or horses, it’s humans too, and includes everything, even bees.  I’m sure we don’t even notice half the time.

Aye, this is a paean to a world of beauty, much of it unappreciated because we are concerned with other things.  I like to see it all, and not be unconscious.

The Worth of a Book

Is it worth more because it’s expensive?  No.  It’s worth the amount it helps you lead a better life.  I faced that problem while pricing my books, and the time has come to re=evaluate that step.

I don’t want to make it out of reach for those on a limited budget, but I don’t want people to think it’s a cheap book.  So I have to use my head.  May the Holy Spirit be with me.

Those books on Amazon are going up in price.  Buy them now!
