The Truth

The New York Times, The Washington Post, and NBC all retracted their stories about Rudolph Giuliani.  They admitted he had no Russian connection.  This realization about the fallibility of prominent newscasters is new since Trump, a service he did for this country.

I remember back in the Fifties one of the teachers in parochial school said the NY Times was pink, in other words, almost Communist.  I think today she’d use the word Socialist.  But newspapers have bias, and the sooner we realize this the sooner we’ll get the big picture.

It’s called the Spirit, and sociologists can’t explain how a culture suddenly catches on to something true and important, when it has had an erroneous belief for decades.

Winning a Long Shot

What a race!  This year’s Kentucky Derby was won by Medina Spirit, a 12-1 favorite, but the second horse was Mandaulaen (that’s how they spelled it), favored at odds of 26=1.  For a horse with such a slim chance to come in second shows some of the pleasing anomalies of life.

It’s not all stacked against us; we have a chance of winning too! We don’t have to win the lottery to prove this.  Every day brings some small favor, which can turn out to be something important.  A chance meeting on the train may mean a new job, a new income, a new life.  OF course, you can’t count on that, otherwise it wouldn’t be chance.

God-given are many of the instincts and inclinations that guide us.  Many of the people we know are gifts from above.  So make the most of it; pray for an alert mindset, an optimistic outlook.

Exaggeration and Lying

Four trillion?  Are you sure that statement isn’t coming from a politician who has been lying, always, for a career of around forty years?  Of course, people have been accused of lying when they are merely using hyperbole (exaggeration), like Trump, but if you want us to take Biden seriously, you’ve got to take Trump seriously.  He was as much God’s choice as Biden.  (Vox populi, vox Dei—the voice of the people is the voice of God).

What you don’t know is the number of people who’ve been praying for the success of our democracy.  They are numbered in the millions, and you don’t think God hears them, do you.  If he hears my prayers, he surely hears them.  Don’t think that the foremost civilization, a Judeo-Christian civilization, doesn’t have some creative help from the creator.

I don’t profess to be a healer, and I don’t profess to be a priest, but I am a writer and I do write about God.  I am first of all a human being, susceptible to all kinds of faults.  What I say needs the collaboration of the divine.

A Cannabis Caution

He invented 42-oxorapamycin, a drug which is used to keep the body from rejecting donated organs, extend the life of mammals, and other medical effects.  His name was Gregory F. Von Burg, and he was my oldest son.  He has about eight patents in the rapamycin family.  We lost God’s gift because another human being introduced Greg to cannabis (pot) which affected his mind, bringing on death.

I find it hard to believe there are lawmakers so ignorant they want to make pot accessible to the public.  Do they know what kind of problem this presents to the police with auto drivers impaired by this drug?  And what of the families affected by the resulting auto crashes?

The State of Virginia has already done this, and who knows how the calamity takes shape?  It will develop slowly.  Up to now the primary users have been adolescents, but as it gets into the older citizens, humanity will suffer—as usual.

A Mind Like the Sky

There are times when our whole world goes awry.  Not to miss a beat, I say wait for the next.  It’s the world that’s meant as a consolation to those who don’t make it here.  That’s not a put down.  That’s a fact.  In a universe that has millions of worlds like ours, could there be one for you?  But how to get there?

Did not Christ move through locked doors at a moment’s notice after his resurrection?  He’s got extraterrestrial ways and means.  They say after you die things are definitely different.  And there’ll be a resurrection, again.

Don’t despair; that’s for those who have one way of thinking.  You have a free mind; use it, like the birds use the sky.
